50,000 DWT Chemical Tanker
Series Build - Hyundai Mipo Dockyard & STX Shipbuilding, South Korea
Newbuild Construction Supervision & Technical Support
Alternative Marine Technologies (AMTECH) provided vessel construction management and technical support for a series of sixteen Medium Range (MR) product tankers built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and STX Shipbuilding in 2015. AMTECH served as the owner’s representative for design integration, construction supervision, and delivery support across the program.
The vessels are eco-design MR product/chemical tankers in the approximately 50,000 DWT class. Construction was split between Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and STX Shipbuilding in South Korea. The series incorporated contemporary eco features, including high-efficiency electronically controlled main engines and ballast water treatment systems suited to product and easy chemical trades.
Construction Phase
AMTECH conducted design and drawing review and attended throughout the building phase at both shipyards. This included inspections at major milestones, quality assurance, systems coordination, and support through commissioning, sea trials, and delivery. AMTECH’s presence ensured consistent technical oversight across the multi-yard program.
Ongoing Technical Support
Following delivery, AMTECH provided ongoing technical support and operational guidance. This included advice on Class compliance, cargo system performance, maintenance strategy, and lifecycle planning. Technical support continued until the vessels were sold to a new owner.
Program Significance
The sixteen-vessel MR program required coordinated construction supervision across two South Korean shipyards in 2015. AMTECH’s role as vessel construction manager and owner’s representative supported design integration, quality control, and delivery of the series. The engagement reflects AMTECH’s experience managing multi-vessel newbuild programs for product tankers and providing sustained technical support through the ownership period until the vessels were sold.
